STEVEN RUBANGA
Founder and Chief Veterinary Technician

Mr. Steven Rubanga, Founder and Chief Veterinary Technician worked for the Uganda Government Veterinary Service for over 10 years. He was involved in serosurveillance of domestic cattle, goats and pigs for diseases of national and economic importance including Rinderpest and Foot and Mouth disease. He felt that he wanted to also contribute to conservation by working with wildlife and approached Gladys while she was working in Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA). It was at this time that together with the late former UWA chief park warden, Keith Musana, the seeds were planted for a dream to set up non-profit/non-governmental organization focusing on wildlife veterinary work, which later expanded to include human public health. Steven was the veterinary technician on Dr. Kalema-Zikusoka’s research project investigating TB at the human, wildlife and livestock interface in Uganda in 2001.

Steven obtained certificates in bacteriology and virology from the Virus Laboratory in Weybdrige, UK; Intituto Zooprofilaticoo Sperimentale in Teramo, Italy; Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Makerere University, Uganda; and a diploma in bacteriology from the Animal Health Research Centre in Entebbe, Uganda. Prior to this he attended the East African Commercial School in 1974.
