LAWRENCE ZIKUSOKA
Founder and Director, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for Development
Mr. Lawrence Zikusoka, Founder and Director, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for Development, has worked on the global UN's Information Technology Service Initiative that assists developing countries in the critical task of bridging the digital divide.
Under the CTPH, Protected Area Initiative on ICT for Development, he works to promote conservation and public health by improving primary health care to people and animals around protected areas. Mr. Zikusoka was on a strategic development team that identified opportunities in emerging markets at Nortel Networks in Research Triangle Park in the USA. Previously, he worked on a technical infrastructure team that expanded the first mobile phone network in Uganda, operated by CelTel.
Mr. Zikusoka was nominated by the Board of Directors, World Summit Award (WSA) to participate on its Grand Jury for multimedia and ICT in Dubai, UAE. This expert panel's mission was successfully completed with the selection and evaluation of the best e-content from 136 participating nations. The selections were showcased in the framework of the United Nations' World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) 2003 in Geneva. Mr. Zikusoka currently works as African spokesperson for the World Summit Award which is preparing for a second round of best practice selections for the WSIS in Tunisia in 2005.
Lawrence received a B.A. in International Studies from Syracuse University, USA where he also studied at l'Université des Science Humaines de Strasbourg, France. He holds a M.S. in Telecommunications from State University of New York Institute of Technology with industry certifications and training from Nortel Networks, Cisco, Corning, Siemens, Alcatel, Fluke Networks and BICSI.
