The talk will focus on research conducted in 2001 and 2002 on TB in people sharing a habitat with mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park , and TB in buffalo, cattle and human at the interface of Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda . The talk will also include ideas for following up on the research recommendations in the formation of Conservation Through Public Health, a grassroots NGO.

Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka worked as a veterinarian for the Uganda Wildlife Authority from 1996-2000. She was funded by the African Wildlife Foundation Charlotte Fellowship Program to conduct a zoological medicine residency program. Her research looked at TB in people sharing a habitat with mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park , and TB in buffalo, cattle and people at the border of Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda . Based on the research, Gladys is setting up an NGO called Conservation Through Public Health to promote conservation with public health by improving primary health to people and animals around protected areas in Uganda.
